Formed 1972, Natta is a private Limited Company owned solely by Chairman John J Whelan. John learnt the business from the bottom up starting as a pipe-layer and ground-worker before trading in a shovel for a JCB. From those humble beginnings the company quickly achieved a reputation for being able to tackle complex ground works in poor ground conditions. Natta still adopts those "hands on" principles which were responsible for its early success.
As a specialist contractor, Natta is renowned for its expertise in both infrastructure installation and contamination land remediation. Anticipating growth in urban regeneration and brown-field redevelopment, Natta invested in new plant and equipment to meet the likely demands from this sector of the construction market. This has been used to advantage by various goverment and local authorities, housing and property developers and major retailers. The company is also well known for its ability to successfully handle unusual or special projects, in particular those whith a strong environmental or conservational element.
In addition to carrying out many key infrastructure projects, Natta is rapidly becoming a leading contractor in reinforced concrete frame superstructure construction. Recent examples of this expertise include Farnborough Airport's new passenger terminal and operations building and several multi-storey block of flats.
Natta insists on strict compliance with all regulatory and legislative requirements coverting health and safety and the environment. As a result of its policy of 'zero tolerance', the company has an exceptionally low level of reportable accidents. This achievement is due, without doubt, to the company's investment in building a dedicated Construction Industry Safety Training Centre (CISTC) at its Farnham headquarters. All levels of supervisor and operative training are carried out in-house by professionally qualified instructors and the entire Natta workforce is progressing to total CSCS or CPCS accreditation. These courses are also available to sub-contractors and clients.
Natta recognises the importance of the various environmental issues that affect the construction industry today. As a result, the company has set objectives and management controls to ensure that pollution is reduced, recycling increased, energy conserved and materials used are selected from renewable sources. Sub-contractors and suppliers are selected from a list of similar environmentally committed companies.
